Play-Learning Mathematical Concepts

Kirova, Anna; Bhargava, Ambika, "Learning To Guide Preschool Children's Mathematical Understanding: A Teacher's Professional Growth," ERIC Education Resource Information Center, Featured Publications. 2002-00-00. Web. March 11, 2011.

Play-based learning is important in learning mathematical concepts. "Learning To Guide..." strongly suggests that trained teachers guide children in play learning of mathematics as opposed to free play. The continuous assessment and monitoring the children is critical for continued progress. The authors caution that adults should be trained in play-based learning concepts. Because classroom aids are often not trained, teachers should supervise the play learning to ensure that children are learning math concepts properly.
