Cochran, Moncrieff. “International Perspectives on Early Childhood Education.” Educational Policy. Vol. 25, No. 1. p. 26 10 Jan 2011. Retrieved from http://epx.sagepub.com.libproxy.boisestate.edu/content/25/1/65.full.pdf+html

In this article Dr. Cochran discusses the goals and preparations implemented by various countries to promote early care and education (ECE). The four main routes she addresses that influence child development are: home, school, ECE program(s), and the community. To integrate this in my others sources, I liked how she talked about strengthening the connection between ECE programs and school by: structural, professional, pedagogical and program continuity, as well as continuity in community/home. This helps me build support for early-child education programs. For the purpose of directing my research topic, I also focused on parent involvement. More parent involvement is seen when child development as a whole, compared to just early schooling, is the focus. In the programs which focus on this enhancement, there is a greater cooperation between parents and teachers that is seen in the programs’ structures, as well as through parent/teacher interactions. Parent involvement is a point hinted at by many of my sources, but is not the main purposes elaborately discussed. I plan to look into this area to see if this is where I want to take my research.
