Alberto's 1st Annotated Bibliography

Lowenstein, Amy E. "Early Care and Education as Educational Panacea: What Do We Really Know About Its Effectiveness?." Educational Policy 25.1 (2011): 92-114. Academic Search Premier. EBSCO. Web. 3 Mar. 2011.

Amy Lowenstein argues that the institutional messages surrounding head start about the effectiveness of the program is a little over generalized and the previous studies done about its benefits are outdated and misinterpreted.  The author does believe that head start does have an positive impact on young children, but the effects of the program are short-term. This author is creditable. I found this from an Education Journal that was peer reviewed. I like how the author discusses about the studies done with head start, and the interpretation that came from that study. She then deconstructs the studies, and analyzes the means in which how the studies were conducted and how they were interpreted. The author does knowledge that head start does some sort of positive impact, and these studies are maybe a potential representation of what head start could be. In terms of incorporating this source into my research, I don’t know yet. It’s possible route, and for sure definitely something I’m going to look into more.
