Josh's Research Question

As I have been Researching and working with the Head Start program, I have had many questions and found many answers. I know how it all started and why it was instigated. I know about the studies done and what their results have been. I have been reluctant to find out that the Head Start program really does give children a start into their educational experience. The one question I do have, as of right now, is that I wonder what subjects in the Head Start program do these children learn more than others. Do they learn English more than Math? Do they Learn to have more social skills than reading comprehension? I read the study that was just completed last year that said these children had a lead in social and literary skills than other children from other schools; but those aren't the only subjects that are important in school and life. I would like to find information from other studies or from head Start people themselves saying whether the other learning areas are improved or even touched in Head Start.

Like I said, as of right now, that is my research question that I feel will lead to many more interesting and hopefully some back door answers into the head Start program.

  1. I feel this topic is needed to support many of the debates of whether Head start, and other programs like it, are beneficial and needed. It would be interesting to know if a child does gain all-around knowledge, or if it is focused on just a couple areas. At first look i didn't think that this would be a broad enough topic to write on, but after thinking about what you could include about how much of each topic a child learns about, this could be very interesting, and as i said before, very beneficial.

  3. Josh: This is interesting, but my first impulse is that you might want to frame your question a little differently. First, what subjects does Head Start emphasize. Second, why? Third (perhaps this makes the topic too broad, I'm not sure), what's being excluded that potentially should be included?
