Josh's second discourse analysis

Florida Head Start research committee. National Head Start Association. Assessment Technology Inc. 2008. Web. 22, Feb. 2011.

When I first opened this PDF file, I thought it was going to be another boring study that was all text. I was surprised to find that once this PDF file was opened, the first thing you see is a cover page with pictures of little children, some playing and smiling. This file gives a very inviting and awe inspiring feel as every page is outlined with either colors or pictures of kids. There are so many pictures that they seem to speak about the document all by themselves. There are even opec pictures behind stories and quotes so that we may identify these people with their stories. Every page had a different quote or story related to that portion of the study accompanied by pictures and bright colors.
Over the course of this study file, the committee gives us a rundown of what Head Start is, why it is important, and what conclusions they have witnessed. throughout it, the quotes are enlarged and colored to differentiate between study and quote. By just glancing at each page, you can understand where the study is going by the big print and color of the titles to each section of the study. They even throw in graphs, some with little cartoons and some that are pie charts, to help point out certain topics. The study points out the many different areas that the children grow in within the Head Start program along with where improvement can be made. A different area of growth encompasses a different page which is labeled with a number at the top middle of the page.
The committee uses an almost "Ronald McDonald" font style, probably to further enhance this study conducted with children. It gives a more playful and fun sense to the reading rather than a boring and mundane feel. As each quote is colored, italicized, and placed in random parts of the page, it gives this study a less monotonous look and feel to a rather enjoyable one.
All in all, this PDF study seems more like a child's fantasy book that you would read to them before a nap. Even so, the findings inside are realistic and to the point. I would have to say that this has been a very fascinating study to read and is very persuasive from the evedence to the stories shared. It would be a wonderful article to read and a smart way to learn more about the Head Start Program.
